Nikon Coolpix S600 Review
|
Review Summary
Reader Score: 5.00 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S600 ($299.95 list) is about as basic as entry-level cameras come. You won't be capturing any photographic masterpieces with this point-and-shooter, but it will do the trick for family gatherings or vacation photos. ...
... In the lab, daylight shots came out a bit dark, with muted color and slight purple fringing. On their own they looked fine, but the difference was apparent when I compared them with images captured by the Casio Exilim EX-Z9, a top performer on daylight shots. ..."

| Imaging-Resource has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S600, a compact camera offering 10-megapixel resolution, 4x optically stabilized wide-zoom lens, and a 2.7" Color LCD. In testing the Coolpix S600, Imaging-Resource, found that the "10-megapixel sensor underperforms when compared to other sensors of this size," and felt that there are betters on the market, even with lower megapixels, that offer more detailed images.

| Review (Summary): "The S600 is a 10-megapixel model, featuring a 4x zoom Nikkor lens with a 28mm-equivalent wide angle, optical image stabilization, a 2.7-inch high-resolution wide-view monitor and a robust brushed-steel body available in either gunmetal or black. Despite that tempting list of features it measures a pocket-friendly 88.5 x 53 x 22.5 mm and weighs just 130g.(4.5 ounces) ...
... Fortunately the S600 does have one major saving grace, and that is its excellent picture quality. In this respect alone it is easily a match for the best of its competitors. The 4x zoom lens performs brilliantly, with good edge-to-edge sharpness that only falls off in the extreme corners of the frame at wide angle. ..." |

| Review (Summary): "I admit to having mixed feelings about the Nikon Coolpix S600. On one hand, it's a very attractive-looking ultracompact capable of producing pretty 10-megapixel photos. But on the other, it's a tad slow and under featured with an occasionally annoying interface. ...
... while the Nikon Coolpix S600 is pretty to look at, fun to hold, and will frequently produce nice photos, disappointing aspects of its performance and operation keep it from getting higher marks...."

| Review (Summary): "... The S600 looks nice from the front with the small lens sat down in the bottom right corner and a tiny slit of a flash right at the top. The only thing that lets the front down is the plastic lens cover. I would have liked to see shiny metal leaves covering the glass and instead it's a mid-tone grey that doesn't fit in with the décor of the camera. ...
... As a camera for family snaps, the colors are good and it shoots portraits well including when the flash is used. For more serious use, you have the 3cm macro feature with a great depth of field but it falls short on the landscape mode...." |
